Driving Rules in Azerbaijan

Speed limits, fines, cameras and road safety for tourists

Driving in Azerbaijan has its peculiarities, especially for foreign tourists. Most rules are similar to European standards (right-hand traffic), but there are nuances worth knowing before you rent a car in Baku.

Speed Limits

Speed cameras are everywhere — on highways and in the city. Fines for speeding start at 50 AZN and are linked to the vehicle's licence plate.

Key Rules

Fines

Fines are tied to the vehicle. When renting from Millicars, fines are forwarded to the renter — review our rental terms.

Parking in Baku

Central Baku has paid parking (0.30-0.50 AZN/hour). Payment via parking meters or mobile app. Towing for illegal parking costs 40 AZN plus impound fees. We recommend using underground car parks at shopping centres.

Driving Culture

Fuel

Petrol in Azerbaijan is inexpensive: AI-92 around 1.00 AZN/L, AI-95 around 1.20 AZN/L. SOCAR stations are widespread. On mountain routes, fill up beforehand — distances between stations can be significant.

In Case of an Accident

  1. Stop and turn on hazard lights
  2. Place a warning triangle
  3. Call the police: 102
  4. Do not move the vehicle until police arrive
  5. Call Millicars: +994 10 311 50 01
